Health insurers and HMOs are among the least trusted in the U.S.

Health insurance companies and managed care companies, such as HMOs, were among the industries U.S. adults said should have more regulation, according to Harris Interactive. Fifty-two percent of adults surveyed said health insurance companies should have more regulation, while 45 percent of adults said managed-care companies needed more regulation. Pessimism about the health insurance and managed care industry was only surpassed by pessimism about Big Oil (53 percent said the oil industry should be more regulated) and Big Pharma (53 percent of adults said pharmaceuticals and drug companies should be more regulated). According to the survey, tobacco, oil, managed care, and health insurance companies are the industries least trusted.
